Job Description Summary:

3 days a week x 12 hour shifts and rotating weekends.

Position Responsibilities

  • Observes patient one-on-one to ensure comfort and safety.
  • Consistently monitors patient's personal needs, recognizes and reports observations to the primary/charge nurse as required.
  • Communicates with patient and / or family to understand patient's needs and wants.
  • Calls code assist when necessary.
  • Independently identifies potentially unsafe environments for the patient; proactively takes initiative to prevent or resolve through appropriate channels or chain of command.
  • Adapts and utilizes available resources to maintain quality services as position demands require. Within accepted standards, adjusts work procedures to meet the patient's changing requirements.
  • Creatively pursues quality improvements to increase patient satisfaction.
  • Practices good interpersonal skills, especially listening skills to interact with the patient and / or the family.
  • Maintains appropriate and positive communication with the patient and / or family. Recognizes patient's needs and adapts communication style as necessary.
  • Assists with basic patient needs that do not require further formal training (i.e. feeding the patient).
  • Conducts all interactions in a confidential manner. Selectively shares patient knowledge to assist in the delivery of quality services.
  • Remains awake and alert through the complete assignment.
  • Attends in-services specific to the area of assignment.
  • Consistently supports departmental PI policies and procedures.
  • Manages own time in a productive and reliable manner. Initiates and completes work assignments on time, adapts to change and meets departmental standards relating to time and attendance.
  • Without risking patient's safety, accepts additional assignments from the primary/charge Nurse to ensure the continuity of departmental services.
  • Promotes departmental and organizational objectives by providing cooperative and courteous service to patients, families, visitors, physicians, and all external customers.
  • Is responsible for following all industry, organizational and departmental precautions and procedures in the performance of all job duties to ensure a safe work environment for self and others.
  • Successfully completes competencies as outlined by the departments operations as relates to age specific population and JC requirements.

Qualifications

  • License/Registration/Certification

    • CPR Certification required. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate within 90 days of employment.
  • Education

    • High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred. Completion of Nursing Assistant program is preferred.
  • Experience

    • Prior healthcare and patient sitting experience preferred.
