Job Description

Description

White Rock Medical Center (WRMC) is an independent 218-bed community hospital in East Dallas serving the neighborhoods around White Rock Lake. We offer emergency services, surgical care, a cardiac catheterization lab, critical care, and a full range of medical and diagnostic services. As a community-focused hospital, we partner with local schools, universities, and organizations to advance health access and outcomes in our neighborhoods.

Position Summary

The Population Health & Community Engagement Intern will support WRMC's work to improve health outcomes in the neighborhoods we serve. The role spans community partnership development, anchor mission programming, and population health initiatives tied to the White Rock Cares foundation pillar. This is an ideal role for a student interested in public health, community health, health equity, or non-profit management who wants to see how a community hospital translates mission into measurable impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Support planning and execution of community health events, health fairs, and school and university partnership activities

• Help map community health needs and social determinants in East Dallas; identify service gaps and opportunities for WRMC to respond

• Research peer hospitals' anchor mission and community benefit programs to identify best practices and benchmarks

• Develop outreach materials, event recaps, and internal summaries for hospital leadership

• Coordinate with partner organizations (local schools, universities, community non-profits, faith-based groups) on joint programming

• Support foundation activities tied to the White Rock Cares pillar, including donor outreach and event logistics

• Track participation, outcomes, and community benefit metrics for programs

What You Will Learn

• How a community hospital designs and executes an anchor mission and population health strategy

• The mechanics of community benefit reporting, partnership development, and program evaluation

• How to communicate across clinical, administrative, and external partner audiences

• Event planning and stakeholder management in a healthcare setting

Qualifications

• Current undergraduate (rising junior or senior) or graduate student in public health, community health, health administration, social work, non-profit management, communications, or a related field

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Comfortable interacting with community members, partners, and hospital staff

• Organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously

• Genuine interest in the health and wellbeing of East Dallas communities

• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus but not required

Why intern at WRMC?

• Direct exposure to hospital operations at a small, independent facility — you will see more, do more, and be closer to decision-makers than at a large health system.

• Mentorship from senior and executive department leaders.

• Meaningful work: your projects will inform real decisions, not sit on a shelf.

• A professional reference and a tangible portfolio of work to show future employers or graduate programs.

Position Details

• Duration: 6–8 weeks, summer 2026

• Hours: 20–40 hours per week (flexible based on student availability)

• Compensation: Paid position (hourly; rate commensurate with academic level)

• Location: On-site at WRMC, 9440 Poppy Drive, Dallas, TX 75218 (hybrid flexibility for specific project work)

• Reports to: VP of Operations
