Job Description

Seeking an RN to perform the following duties:

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job.

The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.

  1. Performs initial assessment of patient.
  1. Formulates a plan of care and nursing diagnosis based on the

     assessment.

  1. Revises and updates plan of care through continuous monitoring and

     evaluation of patient.

  1. Performs nursing care in a safe and timely manner according to unit

     specific proficiencies, hospital policies and procedures and

     philosophy.

  1. Accurate documentation of care.
  1. Provides patient education and discharge planning in collaboration

     with other disciplines.

  1. Delegates patient care duties according to the proficiency level of

     team members while retaining accountability for duties delegated.

  1. Assist in education and staff development of professional and

     nonprofessional personnel and provides technical supervision on the

     unit.

  1. Serves as preceptor to new employees.
  1. Continually evaluates care being delivered and constantly strives to

     increase quality and efficiency through the hospital-wide,

     interdisciplinary CQI process.  Attends meetings as assigned.

  1. Keeps Assistant Executive Director/Patient Care Services and/or Risk

     Management apprised of special concerns regarding quality, cost

     effective care and risk management issues.  Keeps Unit Coordinator

     appraised of actions.

  1. Utilizes standards of national specialty organizations.
  1. Takes responsibility for specific projects as assigned which will

     ensure departmental compliance to standards of environment of care,

     management of information, care of patients, and infection control.

     Attends meetings as assigned.

  1. Notes structural and/or equipment damage, requests maintenance

     Repairs as necessary and reports action to Unit Coordinator.

  1. Practices positive customer relations techniques. Respects patient

     privacy rights and values of individual patients and provides care

     accordingly.

  1. Maintains emergency drugs, equipment and supplies.
  1. Assists with unit cleanliness.
  1. Attends to patient's and family's needs concerning responses to

     illness event.  Considers emotional and spiritual as well as

     physical health.

  1. Works in harmonious manner with team members and strives to create a

     climate conductive to open and honest dialogue and sharing of

     concerns.  Attends unit meetings.

  1. Attends educational offerings. Must maintain a minimum of 24

     Contact hours annually. Maintains ACLS and PALS certifications.

  1. Responsible for safeguarding medications and narcotics.
  1. Participates in developing and evaluating annual unit goals and

     objectives.

  1. Safe administration of medications with appropriate monitoring.
  1. Completes all annual competencies for assigned areas of

     responsibility.

  1. Performs other duties that may be assigned.
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:

Graduate of a school of nursing with current WV license.  BCLS

required. PALS and ACLS preferred or obtainable within six (6) months.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Previous experience in nursing required.

One (1) years’ nursing experience preferred in critical care area.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Must demonstrate the ability to effectively recognize the unique needs of

patients of all ages including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents and

geriatrics.  Must be able to cope with highly stressful situations and set priorities for multiple tasks.  Must possess knowledge of nursing services policies and procedure manuals.  If on call, must be able to report to duty within 20 minutes.
