Corning Credit Union is seeking a Loan Officer to join our team.

Role Summary:

The Loan Officer is primarily responsible for gathering applicant information to determine the best method for meeting their lending needs. Additionally, the Loan Officer educates applicants on complimenting products and services and works with the Underwriting and Analysis Department to decide loans in accordance with approval authority. 

Essential Job Duties

  • Assists members with completing loan requests over the telephone, in-person or online
  • Effectively gathers member debt, income, and supporting loan request information 
    • Ensures pending applications are completed as much as possible to create a seamless experience for the member when other teammates must finalize requests
  • Makes sound loan recommendations through effective interviewing and analysis
  • Effectively educates members about all appropriate the credit union products and services and meets or exceeds sales goals
    • Also maintains basic knowledge of the competition's products and services and utilizes this knowledge to compare and contrast and assist members with their product and service decisions
  • Protects the financial integrity of the credit union and its loan portfolio - effectively balancing member service and exceptions with the risk to the credit union
  • Provides alternative recommendations to members who do not qualify for the loan requested and educates them on ways they can improve their credit standing and future borrowing ability with the credit union
  • Openly communicates lending decisions to the member and is capable of navigating through sensitive situations
  • Clearly documents all loan decisions with supporting information within the application
  • Also assumes responsibility for other projects or duties as required or assigned

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to connect well with members over the phone
  • Highly flexible and able to grasp and disseminate large amounts of information in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Confidence in recommending products and services with the ability to meet appropriate sales and service goals 

Education Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or a related field is preferred, commensurate work experience will also be considered 
  • A high school diploma or GED is required 

Experience Requirements

  • Prior lending experience is preferred

Communication Skills Requirements

  • The ability to read and comprehend moderate to advanced instructions and correspondence 
  • The ability to write moderate to advanced correspondence within professional etiquette standards
  • The ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small-group situations 
  • The ability to effectively communicate loan decisions and navigate sensitive situations
