About the Role:

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) Med Surg position is a critical role within the healthcare team, focused on providing high-quality nursing care to patients in a medical-surgical unit during daytime hours. The primary objective is to support patient recovery and well-being by administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and assisting with daily living activities under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians. This role requires keen attention to detail, strong clinical skills, and the ability to respond promptly to changes in patient conditions. The LVN will collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care plans are executed effectively. Ultimately, this position contributes significantly to positive patient outcomes and the smooth operation of the medical-surgical unit.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current and valid Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in the state of Texas
  • Completion of an accredited vocational nursing program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum of one year experience in a medical-surgical nursing environment or similar clinical setting.
  • Strong understanding of nursing principles, patient care standards, and medical terminology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a fast-paced hospital or acute care setting.
  • Advanced certifications such as IV therapy or wound care.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments accurately and timely according to established protocols.
  • Monitor and record patients’ vital signs, symptoms, and progress, reporting any significant changes to the healthcare team.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, mobility, and feeding as needed.
  • Collaborate with registered nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to implement individualized care plans.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
  • Provide patient education and emotional support to patients and their families regarding care plans and recovery processes.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for patients by adhering to infection control and safety procedures.

Skills:

The required skills enable the LVN to perform clinical tasks such as medication administration, patient monitoring, and documentation with precision and care. Strong observational skills are essential for identifying changes in patient conditions and responding appropriately. Communication skills facilitate effective collaboration with healthcare team members and provide clear education and support to patients and families. Preferred skills, such as proficiency with electronic health records and specialized certifications, enhance efficiency and the quality of care delivered. Palo Pinto General Hospital

Palo Pinto General Hospital (PPGH) is the primary countywide provider of healthcare for Palo Pinto, west of Fort Worth, with more than 28,000 residents. PPGH, based in Mineral Wells, has moved to position itself in our community as more than just an acute care hospital and as a critically needed countywide resource to help foster wellness and combat higher incidences of disease common in rural communities. Palo Pinto County covers more than 950 square miles, and the county’s population is nearly double that of Mineral Wells, PPGH’s home base. “With such a spread across the region, we have pushed our services out into the county,” Ross Korkmas, PPGH’s chief executive officer, said. In 2021, PPGH opened a family care clinic at Possum Kingdom Lake, the third clinic outside Mineral Wells. PPGH also has family care clinics in Mineral Wells, Gordon, Santo, and an urgent care clinic in Mineral Wells. Our physicians practice a range of specialties. They include family practice, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, orthopedics, surgery, cardiology, gastroenterology, urology, ophthalmology, anesthesiology, pain management, radiology, infectious diseases, podiatry, critical care, pulmonology, emergency medicine, and hospitalists.
