We are a non-profit, FQHC-LAL providing medical, behavioral health, case management, community outreach, diabetes education, and pharmacy services. Southwest Care Center is currently seeking an experienced full-time Patient Access Specialist. This position supports our Jefferson Clinic in Albuquerque, NM. 
  

Position Details: 

 

Under the direction of the Clinic Manager, the Patient Access Specialist will provide direct and indirect customer support to the clinical team. They will be responsible for pre-registration, financial determination, appointment scheduling, and coordinating of all front office and registration functions as part of one or more clinical teams. This role serves as liaison between clinical teams along with other staff, other agencies, and patients. 

Position responsibilities include but not limited to: 

  • Collaborates with the clinic staff and other SCC Departments to ensure appropriate workflow within the clinic. 

  • Functions as a liaison between the Patient Access Specialist, Patient Access Supervisor, and all staff.  

  • Serves as a resource to on-site Patient Access Staff. 

  • Provides exceptional service excellence to patients and guests by demonstrating a positive attitude, being patient-focused, and performing in a professional manner at all times. 

  • Demonstrates the importance of patient access at all times by adhering to the scheduling protocol. 

  • Consistently promotes patient access by answering and managing calls from a telephone system. 

  • Transferring calls to appropriate staff members or departments.  

  • Promptly retrieves and replies to voicemail messages. 

  • Utilizes electronic scheduling software to enter and track patient interactions as appropriate, including updating accurate patient demographics and insurance information at all times. 

  • Maintains proficiency in the use of the electronic scheduling software, electronic health record, and scanning. 

  • Verifies insurance eligibility for each patient visit. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

Candidate Highlights:  

 

  • Minimum 1 year of experience working front desk in a healthcare environment preferred, Athena EMR experience highly desired. 

  • Education: High school Diploma or general education degree (GED).  

  • Basic Life Support Certification required.
