Job Description

Avion Solutions Inc., an employee-owned company, is seeking candidates for a Junior Systems / Software Safety Engineer to support PAE Fires IFMC Project Office engineering safety activities. This position is based in Huntsville, AL.

Job Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Support development and implementation of system safety programs.

  • Apply MIL-STD-882E principles to support system safety activities.

  • Assist in hazard identification and risk analysis activities.

  • Support development and tracking of hazard mitigation measures.

  • Conduct hazard analyses in accordance with system safety design order of precedence.

  • Assist in preparation of Safety Assessment Reports and supporting documentation.

  • Support safety incident investigations and root cause analysis activities.

  • Maintain system safety documentation supporting engineering programs.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional engineering teams to support system safety compliance.

  • Support Agile software development and MBSE-based engineering activities as required.

  • Provide support to proposal efforts including contract re-competes.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Systems Engineering, Safety Engineering, or related discipline).

  • 0 to 3 years of relevant engineering experience.

  • Basic knowledge of safety principles, hazard mitigation techniques, and risk analysis.

  • Experience supporting risk analysis activities for engineering systems.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to support multiple assignments.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office tools.

  • Must be a US Citizen and have/able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.

  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience applying system safety policies within engineering programs.

  • Familiarity with Agile software development environments.

  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).

  • Familiarity with Air and Missile Defense systems.

  • Experience using engineering collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, Cameo, or MagicDraw.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
