Job Description

The Strategic Communications Coordinator supports Metro’s internal and external communications efforts by assisting with internal events, creating compelling content, managing digital platforms, and assisting with media, social media, and website activities. Reporting to the Communications Supervisor, this position plays a key role in strengthening employee engagement, maintaining Metro’s brand voice, and ensuring timely, accurate information is delivered to both internal and public audiences. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, organized project manager, and creative communicator with a passion for storytelling across multiple channels.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Internal Communications Support
  • Support planning and logistics for internal meetings and events such as Leadership Meetings, Town Halls, Table Talks, recognition programs, wellness campaigns, and giving initiatives.
  • Assist in the development and distribution of internal communications, including employee newsletters, MetroNet content, digital signage, print collateral, and special announcements.
  • Draft, edit, and format content for MetroNet (SharePoint) and other internal platforms to keep employees informed and engaged.
  • Maintain project timelines, archives, and records for internal communications initiatives.
  • Provide administrative and project support for purchasing, printing, and production workflows.
External Communications and Marketing Support
  • Draft press releases, media advisories, talking points, and background materials in coordination with the Communications Supervisor and Director of Communications.
  • Assist with managing Metro’s website content, including posting news updates, blogs, service alerts, landing pages, and campaign pages using the content management system.
  • Support development and execution of social media strategies by drafting posts, scheduling content, monitoring engagement, compiling analytics reports, and collaborating with Customer Care to address customer questions and concerns.
  • Help maintain content calendars for external campaigns, promotions, service changes, and community events.
  • Support photo, video, and creative asset collection for use in digital and print channels.
Administrative and Project Support
  • Track project deliverables and deadlines to ensure assignments are completed on time and within scope.
  • Assist with vendor coordination, proofing print jobs, and managing asset distribution.
  • Maintain organized digital filing systems for creative assets, communications templates, and project materials.
  • Serve as an Essential Employee to support Metro operations during emergencies or weather-related events.
  • Model excellent internal and external customer service, professionalism, and teamwork.

EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related role.
  • Experience writing for digital platforms, including websites and social media, preferred.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Working knowledge or ability to learn SharePoint, Canva, SurveyMonkey, website content management systems, and social media scheduling tools.
  • Familiarity with AP style guidelines.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with photography and video production and post-production needed.

SORTA operates Metro fixed-route bus service and Access paratransit service for people whose disabilities prevent their riding Metro buses. Metro provides about 15 million rides per year in Greater Cincinnati.
