Job Description

Consumer Advocate

The Office of the Missouri Attorney General has an opening in its Consumer Protection Unit for a Consumer Advocate. Responsibilities include mediating complaints and identifying those that may need further investigation. Applicants must be able to maintain confidentiality; plan, prioritize, and organize effectively; handle multiple projects while managing a large caseload; work well under pressure; analyze and interpret voluminous information quickly and accurately; meet with the public; and exercise independent judgment. Applicants must have excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to conduct internet-based research, and be able to use computer programs such as Word. Starting salary is $42,872.40. This position is open until filled.

The Attorney General’s Office represents and provides legal advice to most state agencies; defends challenges to the validity of state laws; enforces civil law, including consumer protection and environmental laws; defends the State’s interest in civil actions, including bankruptcies, workers’ compensation claims, professional licensing cases, and habeas corpus actions filed by state and federal inmates; and serves as a special prosecutor in criminal cases when appointed. In addition, the Office handles all appeals statewide from felony convictions.
