Qualifications

You have a High School Diploma or equivalent and prior medical experience with knowledge of medical terminology is helpful. You will be responsible for technical equipment used in Endoscopy procedures and must complete a skill validation test and achieve GI Technical Specialist (GTS) within six months of hire. Basic Life Support certification is also required within three months of hire.

Responsible for technical equipment used in the Endoscopy procedure to promote smooth operations. The Endoscopy Tech provides assistance to a team of Endoscopy nurses and physician’s while providing support to the patient as needed to promote efficient and safe procedures.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Prior medical experience and knowledge of medical terminology helpful
  • Complete GI Associate’s skill validation test & achieve GI Technical Specialist (GTS) within six (6) months of hire
  • Basic Life Support certification within three (3) months of hire

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspects and decontaminates by washing and maintaining endoscopes and other GI instruments per department protocols.
  • Assists department personnel in changing linens, cleaning beds & procedure rooms.
  • Assembles equipment as needed and changes suction tubing between each patient.
  • Orders supplies approved by the manager & keeps procedure rooms stocked to par levels.
  • Transports patients in & out of procedure rooms, and to inpatient rooms & discharge areas. Preserves skin integrity when providing patient care & transport. Understands hearing and visual impairments to protect patients from injury.
  • Understands the complications associated with endoscope manipulation. Understands full view of the lumen must be seen by way of video screen during procedure.
  • Demonstrates courtesy to patients, families, co-workers, and physicians. Maintains confidentiality to patient information. Directs questions to appropriate personnel.
  • Responsible for personal continuing education.
  • Wears PPE when appropriate, is fitted for TB mask, cleans BP cuffs after every patient use, washes hands per protocol and follows contact and isolation precautions.

  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands and Environmental Work Conditions:

  • Recognize potential exposure to blood borne pathogens and/or hazardous materials, noxious/irritating fumes, long hours, and unforeseen conditions that might generate stress may be encountered.
  • Must be able to see with corrective eyewear and hear clearly with assistance.
  • Must be able to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist frequently.
  • Must be able to lift greater than fifty (50) pounds and push up to three hundred (300) pounds frequently.
  • Responsible for on-call duties as assigned by GI Lab Manager.
