Position Summary

The Yard Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of tractor trailers within the yard and the transfer of bulk materials using pneumatic and vacuum loading systems. This role plays a critical part in maintaining product flow from silos and railcars while ensuring compliance with all safety, environmental, and operational standards.

This position may also include opportunities for travel to support operations at other locations. Employees performing travel work are compensated with company-paid travel expenses and additional ticket-based bonus pay on top of their hourly rate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate yard tractors and maneuver tractor trailers safely within the facility
  • Perform pneumatic loading and unloading of bulk materials from silos into trailers
  • Conduct vacuum loading operations from railcars and other bulk storage units
  • Inspect trailers, hoses, fittings, and loading equipment prior to use
  • Connect and disconnect hoses, pipes, and fittings for product transfer
  • Monitor pressure levels, flow rates, and system performance during loading/unloading
  • Follow all lockout/tagout and confined space procedures when applicable
  • Maintain cleanliness of yard, equipment, and work areas to prevent contamination and hazards
  • Complete required documentation, load tickets, and inspection logs accurately
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, rail crews, and other team members
  • Identify and report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns immediately
  • Travel to other job sites or terminals as needed to support operational demands

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience operating tractor trailers or yard trucks preferred
  • Experience with pneumatic or vacuum bulk transfer systems is a plus
  • Valid driver’s license required (CDL preferred but not always required depending on facility)
  • Willingness and ability to travel for work assignments as needed
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments in all weather conditions
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong attention to safety and detail

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Climb ladders and access elevated platforms (silos, trailers, railcars)
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and work in confined spaces
  • Must be able to wear required PPE (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, etc.) & adhere to all company safety standards.
