AUDITOR GENERAL

The Arizona Auditor General serves as an independent source of impartial information concerning State and local governmental entities and provides specific recommendations to improve the operations of those entities. With Master's degree             $63,000-$66,000

Key Responsibilities:
  • Gains an understanding of the fiduciary roles and responsibilities of a county treasurer’s office, which operates similar to a financial or banking institution for local governments, by managing and investing public funds under state law. 

  • Conducts fieldwork at county treasurer’s offices throughout the State to examine compliance with the Uniform Accounting for Arizona County Treasurers (UAMACT).  

  • Examines the county treasurer office’s internal control framework which includes: the control environment, risk assessment, internal control activities, information and communication, and monitoring within a county treasurer’s office. 

  • Research best practices, laws and regulations, and other applicable resources related to the county treasurer offices under review.  

  • Evaluates essential IT systems, specifically for county treasurer offices financial systems. 

  • Helps make impactful recommendations to county treasurer’s offices to promote better government and make a positive difference. 

  • Follows up on recommendations annually to examine progress and determine if recommendations are implemented. 

Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree, in finance, economics, business, business management, or a related field is required. 

  • Entry-level positions will involve training under senior examiners. 

  • Strong interest in public service and improving State government. 

  • Strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, proficiency with computer software, and excellent communication for interviewing personnel. 

  • Prior experience with banking institutions, internal audit functions, or county treasurer operations (preferred).  

  • Must have valid Arizona driver's license.
