Job Description

Overview

Shift: 7a-3:30p

Description

  • Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, procures, prepares, packages, and distributes and disposes medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients.
  • Maintains an established inventory of drugs and commonly used supplies; re-orders and stocks items upon delivery to ensure immediate availability.
  • Maintains competency and follows departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products.
  • Properly operates, troubleshoots, monitors, and cleans departmental automation and equipment.
  • Ensures Pharmacist product verification and facilitates the timely and appropriate distribution of medications to maintain product integrity.
  • Maintains accurate records and patient profiles including charging and crediting.
  • Responds timely to customers' needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages, and triaging requests appropriately.
  • Understands and implements appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks ensuring timely and safe patient care.
  • Assists with operational support functions, including minor housekeeping activities and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards to maintain the work area.
  • Conducts regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including the examination of product integrity and expiration.
  • Maintains competency and follows departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines to safely and accurately handle, prepare, distribute, and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous prod.
  • Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
  • Completes all required training and competency assessments in a timely fashion.
  • Attends educational in-services as appropriate.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of new personnel.
  • May serve as a resource for less experienced staff, providing technical information and guidance in pharmacy techniques and policies to ensure the delivery of efficient, quality service.
  • May perform other duties as assigned or requested .

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program or enrollment in a professional-related school preferred.
  • 6 months experience as Pharmacy Technician or completion of ASHP-accredited tech training program preferred.
  • Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license.
  • Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Medium-Heavy) 36-75 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 20-35 lbs, 34-66% of the workday; (frequently); 10-20 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 75 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 35 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking; Occasional sitting; Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing); Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work. Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators may be required.
