Job Description

Intern – Veterinary Assistant Schedule: Up to 28 hours/week, variable

What You'll Do

You'll support daily operations inside the shelter clinic-assisting with medical care, surgery prep, recovery monitoring, and maintaining a clean, safe environment for animals and staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean, sterilize, and prepare surgical instruments, packs, and equipment
  • Assist with surgery prep, anesthesia support, and post-op recovery monitoring
  • Maintain clean, stocked surgical suites, cages, and workspaces
  • Support routine medical procedures, lab work, and animal triage
  • Accurately document care, treatments, and intake using shelter systems

What You Bring – Education & Experience

  • At least 16 years old
  • Interest in veterinary medicine, animal care, or related field
  • Ability to follow instructions, stay organized, and work independently
  • Strong communication skills and professionalism with staff and public

Preferred Certifications

  • None required

Technical Skills & Knowledge

  • Basic understanding of medical or lab environments (helpful but not required)
  • Ability to learn equipment such as autoclaves and diagnostic tools
  • Comfortable using databases and tracking systems
