The Multi-Care Technician I (MCT I) is a vital member of the patient care team working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). This role provides basic patient care and supports unit operations through a combination of clinical and clerical responsibilities. The MCT I assists with activities of daily living, performs basic clinical tasks, supports nursing station operations, and may perform 12-lead EKG testing to assist the care team in delivering safe and effective patient care.

Essential Functions

  • Provides basic patient care including monitoring vital signs, blood glucose checks, and documenting intake and output.

  • Assists patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, feeding, and mobility support.

  • Observes and reports abnormal findings or changes in patient condition to nursing staff.

  • Maintains clean, safe, and organized patient rooms and unit environments.

  • Performs clerical duties to support nursing station operations, including answering phones and managing basic documentation tasks.

  • Performs 12-lead EKG testing as directed by nursing staff or providers.

  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, and members of the interdisciplinary care team.

  • Supports infection prevention practices and patient safety protocols.

  • Performs additional duties as assigned to support patient care and unit operations.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to safely lift, move, and assist patients and equipment according to safety guidelines.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer skills used in healthcare settings.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to support patient-centered care.

  • Ability to observe, report, and document patient information accurately.

  • Familiarity with infection prevention practices and hospital safety standards.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.



Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, including education equivalent to completion of secondary school or demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the role. (Required)

Completion of a postsecondary certificate, diploma, or program in one of the following:(Required)

  • Nursing Assistant

  • Patient Care Technician

  • Medical Assistant

  • Emergency Medical Technician

Or some college coursework completed in an accredited school of nursing, including successful completion of “Fundamentals of Nursing.” (May be considered)

Licenses/Certifications

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). (Required upon hire)

  • Or

  • Current enrollment in good standing in an accredited school of nursing. (May be considered)

  • Basic Life Support (BCLS). (Required upon hire or within facility-specified timeframe)

 

Experience

  • One (1) or more years of patient care experience in a hospital setting. (Preferred)
