Position: Contact Lens Assistant

Position Summary:
The Contact Lens Assistant provides instruction and information to patients regarding contact lenses in coordination with contact lens technicians and physicians. Monitors contact lens inventory and patient orders.
- Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide patient education regarding contact lenses and supplies
- Insertion and Removal training of Contact Lenses (Deliveries)
- Inventory maintenance of contact lens merchandise
- Verify contact lens parameters
- Assists patients/customers visiting or telephoning the contact lens department with appointment scheduling, orders, billing and insurance concerns and sale of supplies
- Documents contact lens orders in patient record, EMR, transfer charts to designated areas
- Performs accounts receivable function for contact lens department sales
- Assists with inventory maintenance of contact lens trials and supply orders for all satellites
- Verifies packing list for CL orders and contact patient for pick up
- • Computer skills with ECW software , PCIS and EMR
- • Post charges, payments and adjustments
- • Run Televox for optical and house calls
- • Place on-line contact lens ordering with vendors, monitor and process all web orders, CLRx verifications, place specialty CL orders
- • Meet with Vendor representatives on new product and inventory
- • Contact lens returns
- • Work directly with CL Techs and ODs on problem solving and order processes
- • Be well versed in participating vision plans and insurance plans (CL coverage)
- • Address patient’s questions and concerns within realm of expertise
- • Participate in department meetings and offer ideas and suggestions to better serve our patients
- • Refer any situations outside realm of expertise to appropriate department or employee
- • Other duties as assigned
Work Relationship and Scope:
The Contact Lens Assistant reports directly to the Optical Manager.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• High School diploma or equivalent
• 1-2 years of customer service or optical experience is preferred
• Ability to work in a fast-paced medical facility while adhering to HIPAA compliance regulations
• Demonstrates knowledge of proper, safe, efficient usage of office equipment, computers, and software; working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Work Conditions:
Work is generally performed at the main clinic; 800 N. First Street, Wausau, WI. Hours of work will be dependent on the needs of the Clinic. Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Occasional lifting (30 pounds), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing stairs is required.
