Summer, Property Assistant

The Opportunity

As part of the Property Team, the Summer, Property Assistant will assist in the general upkeep of a 420-acre summer camp located in Holmes, NY. Position will start in May as part time (16-20 hours per week), and transition to full time (35-40 hours per week) in late June until summer camp concludes in August. Camp Kaufmann serves as a year-round Girl Scout camp for troops in New York City. 

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Property Manager, the Summer Property Assistant will be:

  • Mowing grass and weed trimming throughout camp property
  • Assisting with building and equipment repair
  • Collecting and disposing of trash and recycling
  • General Janitorial duties
  • Ensuring cleaning supplies are adequately stocked throughout camp
  • Facility Maintenance (changing light bulbs and water filters, unclogging toilets, stocking bathroom supplies)
  • Assisting with general grounds upkeep
  • Removing debris, leaves, and overgrowth as needed
  • Supporting the Property Manager and Ranger with daily tasks and projects
  • Reporting any safety hazards or maintenance concerns
  • Providing excellent customer service to staff, volunteers, and campers
  • Interpret and support GSUSA and Council policies and standards
  • Other duties, as assigned

Qualifications

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Comfortable operating lawn mowers and basic grounds equipment
  • Reliable, hardworking, and a team player
  • Previous grounds or maintenance experience is a plus but not required
  • Must be at least 17 years of age
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds 
  • Passion for the outdoors and supporting a youth serving organization
  • Must be able to commit to up to 40 hours a week with some flexibility during the months  of June (toward the end of June), July and August
  • Reliable, professional, punctual and the ability to follow instructions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills (ability to diagnose the cause and perform the repair or service)
  • Calm and quick response during emergency situations
  • Demonstrated ability to work with culturally diverse communities
  • Valid US Driver’s license

Compensation

  • Pay is $17-$19/hour depending on qualifications
  • Free meals! Staff are provided with breakfast, lunch and dinner on working days
