Eaton’s IS AER MSD division is currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer. 

The expected annual salary range for this role is $71000 - $105000 a year.

This position is for a Mechanical Design Engineer role supporting research and new product development in Eaton’s Mission Systems Division (MSD). The engineer performs assigned tasks including design, analysis, risk management, planning, and coordination with other technical functions and program management related to all work within the scope of assigned projects. The engineer will support project teams as required and may act as a technical leader for small projects. They will report technical information to and secure feedback from an engineering manager or project lead.

A successful candidate will need knowledge and have prior experience of fundamental mechanical and physics principals and have experience working in an aerospace or industrial setting.



Job Responsibilities:


Mechanical Design Engineers work in a dynamic, fast paced environment and are responsible for successful execution of research, design, development, testing and certification activities. Including:

•    Execute assigned design and analysis activities in accordance with project cost and schedule constraints.
•    Apply fundamental mechanical and physics principals to support development of a conceptual design into a mature product solution.
•    Create design definition documents (3D models, 2D drawings) and design supporting documentation (engineering reports, test procedures, etc.).
•    Manage technical risk through exhaustive identification, prioritization of risk mitigation activities, and data driven design changes where appropriate.
•    Follow engineering standards and design guides and provide ideas for improving site best practices.
•    Work to Design for Six Sigma principles including careful management of Critical to Quality requirements through the design lifecycle, rigorous knowledge building of the design space, understanding of the effects of manufacturing variation, and design for manufacturing and assembly to meet product recurring cost targets.
•    Work individually or as part of a team made up of other engineering or cross functional disciplines.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution.

• This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. “Green Card Holder”), Political Asylee or Refugee.

• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.

• Relocation is not provided. All candidates must currently reside within 70 miles of Eaton's Orchard Park, NY facility

Preferred Qualifications:


•  Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution.
•  1-3 years’ experience of system, product design, development, and/or production design problem resolution experience. Inclusive of internship experiences."
•  Familiarity with SolidWorks, ANSYS, MATLAB, Simulink
•  Familiarity with Aerospace new product introduction methods, regulatory standards.
•  Familiarity with ASME Y14 Standards.
•  Familiarity with hydraulic or pneumatic valve design.
•  Familiarity with design and analysis of high-pressure systems.

Skills:


•    Ability to work autonomously on assigned tasks with oversite from a technical leader or engineering manager.
•    Ability to learn and apply new concepts, software, and engineering principles.
•    Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration with internal and external customers.
•    Have sound problem resolution, judgment, and decision-making skills.
•    Proficiency with 3D CAD package.
•    Understanding of drawing standards and application of GD&T.
