Job Description

Job Purpose: Under the direction of the department manager or supervisor, performs interpretive, patient care, and technical functions to insure proper radiologic diagnosis of patients. 

Education & Qualifications: Must be a graduate of an accredited two‑year radiologic technology program 

Required Licenses/Certifications: CMRT by the Texas Medical Board, ARRT, BLS certifications required

Work Experience 6 months to 1 year radiology & CT experience required with preference in hospital setting. 

Physical Demands & Working Conditions: Ability to stand/walk between 4 to 6 hours and sit between 2-4 hours. Requires the motion to lift and carry up to 1/3 of the time. Bend, reach, push, carry and pull 1/3 or more of the time. Continuous use of hands in gross and precise motor function. Lift up to 100 pounds up to 1/3 of the time. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform specific competencies as listed on the competency validation checklist.
  • Receives and reviews request for radiologic studies
  • Accepts patients and assesses their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements
  • Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
  • Operates highly complex radiographic equipment within the radiology department, operating suites and at the patient's bedside, selecting technical factors to ensure high-quality radiographs using the A.L.A.R.A. (As low as reasonable achievable) standards.
  • Participates in technical duties directly involved with the CT scanner including developing, initiating, and monitoring procedures for the effective utilization of this unit.
  • Administers CT contrast according to the hospital policies and procedures.
  • Performs CT scan quality control procedures according to the hospital policies and state requirements.
  • Explain and prepare the patient for all radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures
  • Interview patients and review available clinical data from charts to alert nurses and or physicians to possible contradictions for procedure
  • Relies on extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and effects of disease processes to properly and safely position the patient for maximum diagnostic yield.
  • Maintains radiographic equipment and x-ray room in proper working condition.  Reports malfunctions and necessary repairs to supervisory personnel.
  • Maintains radiology supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting order for supplies, verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Attends all mandatory education programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety and regulatory compliance
  • Attends all required department-specific education and training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to department safety and specific job‑related hazards.
  • Follows the hospital exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Demonstrates proper body mechanics in all functions
  • Wears proper identification while on duty
  • Perform other duties as assigned
