As a MRI Technologist at UPMC you play a critical role in ensuring accurate and safe imaging procedures for our patients. Your expertise and attention to detail contribute to exceptional patient care and efficient department operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Clinical Competency:
    • Maintain proficiency in operating MRI equipment and stay updated on technological advancements.
    • Perform high-quality MRI scans with precision and attention to patient safety.
  2. Patient Identification and Universal Protocol:
    • Properly identify patients using two identifiers.
    • Follow universal protocol guidelines during procedures to prevent errors.
    • Review patient history and assess physician orders to tailor protocols for optimal data acquisition.
    • Administer contrast agents as needed and document patient history in electronic records.
  3. Physician Collaboration:
    • Present relevant patient information to physicians before starting exams.
    • Follow established protocols to ensure accurate and efficient imaging.
  4. Administrative Tasks:
    • Code and track all exams within your responsibility using the RIS system.
    • Update and document patient information in Rad Assessment.
    • Network exams to ISITE for archiving and interpretation.
    • Enter charges accurately for performed exams.
  5. Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to MR safety guidelines and protocols.
    • Maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  6. Effective Communication:
    • Interact compassionately with patients and colleagues.
    • Explain procedures clearly to alleviate patient anxiety and encourage cooperation.
  7. Collaboration and Efficiency:
    • Work seamlessly with other departments to expedite patient care.
    • Contribute to a positive team culture within the department.
  8. Archiving and Documentation:
    • Review, process, and archive MRI images efficiently.


MRI Tech level: Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology, or completion of an accredited CNMT, ARMRIT or ARDMS program. ARRT registry eligible technologist must obtain ARRT within 6 months of hire date.  MR registry must be acquired within 18 months of the date the primary registry was acquired or date of hire if primary registry is already obtained. CNMT, ARDMS and ARMRIT graduates must obtain MR registry within 12 months of hire date. 

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
ARRT registry eligible technologist must obtain ARRT within 6 months of hire date. MR registry must be acquired within 18 months of the date the primary registry was acquired. CNMT, ARDMS and ARMRIT graduates must obtain MR registry within 12 months of hire date. CPR or BLS Required. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

 

  • ARRT Certificate OR Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification (NMTC) OR Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
