Qualifications

We are seeking an experienced Presser with at least one year of experience operating garment steam press machines and hand irons. The role requires continuous standing and movement to shape and press garments, ensuring no damage occurs. A high school diploma or GED is sufficient, as it can substitute for the full 12 months of required experience.

Job Description

Job Summary: Performs pressing dry clean work which involves shaping and pressing of garments and articles by operation of steam press machines and hand irons. Also assists in dry cleaning wearing apparel and other articles. Duties and Responsibilities: Presses dry cleaned garments or articles such as wool silk and other fabrics e.g. pants coats dresses gowns military uniforms shirts utilizing number of pressers. Makes proper pressing lay on such presses as utility puff ironer topper and garment form and steam cabinet for removal of wrinkles from dresses and coats. Reshapes pleats and creases apparel to intended size shape and appearance. Removes wrinkles and retains shape without shrinking stretching or otherwise damaging garment. - Assists in sorting and pressing wet garments utilizing and automatic spreader. Folds ironed flatwork utilizing a folding table and places in stack of prescribed numbers. Counts items wraps and labels for pick-up delivery. - As required assists in sorting incoming garments for dry cleaning by colors and dislodges lint. Weighs garments for proper cleaning and places in washers according to the capacity of the machine. Mixes detergent and places in machine following established instructions. Also prepares hangers for garments cleaned. - Maintains working area in a clean and orderly manner. - Works under the general supervision of a designated supervisor who determines assignments. Work is performed within the framework of established guidelines and instructions. Refers problems to supervisor for resolution. Work is reviewed through spot check for cleanliness quality neatness and patron satisfaction. PHYSICAL EFFORT Pressing work requires continuous standing with constant movement of arms and feet in adjusting garments and operating presses. WORKING CONDITIONS Laundries are usually noisy hot and humid. Pressers are constantly exposed to possible burns from presses. - Performs other related duties as assigned

GENERAL EXPERIENCE Twelve months experience performing work involving the operation of garment steam press machines and hand irons. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE One year of high school education may be substituted for 3 months of experience up to a High School Diploma or GED for 12 months of experience. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Pressing work requires continuous standing with constant movement of arms and feet in adjusting garments and operating presses.
