Salary:
$16.90-$24.98
SUMMARY: Creates opportunities for and provides functional social and behavioral skills training to adults with developmental disabilities in a variety of community integrated settings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
OTHER DUTIES:
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Position supervised: None.
BENEFITS: On-call employees who work an average of 30 hours per week for three consecutive months during the six-month measurement period are eligible for health insurance. Temporary employees with regular hours are eligible for holiday pay.
At the time of hire, temporary on-call employees will receive 24 hours of sick leave that can be used after 90 days of employment. If the employee has used any sick leave hours during the year, the total will be brought back up to 24 hours at the beginning of July each year.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of six months related experience working with individuals with developmental/behavioral disabilities. College level course work in social welfare, special education, psychology, rehabilitation, or other related field may be partial substitute for paid work experience. Behavior management background preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients, customer s or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Current CPR and first aid certificates, certification of TB clearance, physical exam, fingerprint clearance. Class B California Driver's License may be required.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to provide a positive environment that stimulates learning skills and maintenance; the knowledge and ability to apply behavior management techniques; the ability to follow directions and written behavior plans; the ability to adapt to frequent change; and the ability to prioritize work effectively to meet a variety of timelines. All employees must possess the ability to work with a cheerful and caring attitude toward clients, co-workers, and the community.

The employee must frequently lift and transfer adults and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Life Skills Coaches who work as a Tutor receive a 5% pay differential.
Tutor Plus:
Life Skills Coaches who work as a Tutor Plus receive a 10% pay differential.
