TSINY, a non-profit mental health services agency is seeking Housekeeper for their Residential Mental Health Program, located in Queens Village (Queens County), NY.

Salary: $40,040 annually, $22/hr., Full-Time

Position Summary

Responsible for the cleanliness and appearance of the building and inspection of the building for maintenance issues, clean all common areas. Work with the residents on ADL skills, such as room maintenance, cleaning and laundry. Communicate residents’ ADL needs to the primary counselor and case manager.

Essential Functions

  • Thorough cleaning of all rooms within the Program. “Cleaning” includes, but is not limited to mopping floors, cleaning refrigerators, stoves, ovens and microwaves, washing walls, dusting, vacuuming, scrubbing bathtubs and toilets, etc.
  • Read Communication Log in AWARDS and follow-up as indicated.
  • Assist residents on an as-needed and crisis basis.
  • Communicate critical information (i.e., clinical/safety/maintenance) to supervisor and via the Communication Log in AWARDS. Also, notify clinical changes to therapist/psychiatrist/ program.
  • Document all scheduled meetings/visits with the residents in a progress note and on the Contact Log form.
  • Check all e-mails and items in mailbox. Follow-up on all messages, if indicated.
  • Submit receipts for all petty cash expenditures.
  • Check revised staff schedules.
  • Complete Incident Reports immediately after occurrence. Forward Incident Reports to Bronx II Program Director immediately after completion.
  • Visit assigned rooms as scheduled and clean the rooms as needed and specified by supervisor.
  • Schedule and conduct supervised cleaning visits with each resident.
  • Make sure sets of room keys are correct, labeled and in the key box in the chart room.
  • Shop for miscellaneous program needs as indicated.
  • Submit requests for time-off to immediate supervisor at least two weeks in advance.
  • Visit residents in the hospital if needed, take clothing and other items to residents in the hospital if needed and document all hospital visits.
  • Supervise and assist all residents with ADL functions, i.e., shopping, cleaning, etc.
  • Attend trainings as scheduled.
  • Conduct supervised cleaning meetings.
  • Complete clear and concise progress notes reflecting relevant issues and plan for action.
  • Report needs for room maintenance, supplies to immediate supervisor, document maintenance requests, and follow up on all previous requests.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings. Read staff meeting minutes, if absent.
  • Thoroughly inspect building for safety/cleanliness, proper storage of belongings, adequate maintenance and supplies. Review findings with residents, formulate, and follow up on plans for correction.
  • Attend CPR/First Aid Training.
  • Be able to sit or stand as needed, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • May require walking, primarily on a level surface, for short periods throughout the day, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Be able to reach above shoulder heights, below the waist or lift as required to file documents or store materials throughout the workday, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Driver’s license required.
  • During a declared disaster, assume and adhere to assigned Job Action role(s) consistent with Disaster Preparedness Plan.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Experience/Education/Skills/Abilities

Housekeeper/Counselor I: High School diploma and ability to complete household cleaning and housekeeping duties.

Housekeeper/Counselor II: Associate’s degree or High School diploma plus one year’s experience in a mental health setting and ability to complete household and housekeeping duties.

Housekeeper/Counselor III: Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree plus one year’s experience in a mental health setting or High School diploma plus two years’ experience in a mental health setting and ability to complete household and housekeeping duties.
