Wages

$27.00 per hour

Schedule

This is a temporary, full-time position that will work Mondays – Fridays and will end on August 7, 2026.

Job Summary

PCYC is seeking 3 Freedom School Servant Leader Interns to lead and teach scholars with the curriculum provided by CDF Freedom Schools. The CDF Freedom Schools® program is a direct service initiative coordinated nationally by the Children’s Defense Fund in partnership with local community organizations. It is an educational and cultural enrichment program that provides summer options for children and strengthens family and community involvement. The program serves children in kindergarten through 12th grade for 6 to 8 weeks.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise and maintain the safety of scholars.
• Serve as a positive role model for all scholars.
• Set up, manage, and break down classroom space according to standards outlined by CDF and the sponsor organization.
• Engage a maximum of 10 scholars per class in the Integrated Reading Curriculum.
• Create, submit, and implement lesson plans.
• Attend daily debriefing sessions.
• Participate fully in Harambee and all engagement practices.
• Attend all required Ella Baker Child Policy Training Institute training sessions.
• Attend all local and site-based trainings as required by the Site Coordinator and Project Director.
• Support afternoon enrichment partners.
• Create and implement afternoon enrichment activities.
• Work with site staff to ensure all program components are implemented with fidelity.
• Report any issues or concerns regarding program operations to the Site Coordinator.
• Attend food service training.

What You Bring

• At least one year of college or two years of experience in a similar position.
• Experience working with youth and families in an urban setting is preferred.
• Experience working in a nonprofit community-based organization is preferred.
• Experience or education in social work or counseling is helpful.
• Knowledge of youth, families, and community.
• A demonstrated high level of competence in computer applications, including the ability to create and use charts, tables, and functions in Excel.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• The ability to develop relationships with youth and families that foster academic success.
• A mission-driven mindset.
• The ability to motivate others and work as part of an intergenerational team.
• The ability to give and receive feedback.
• A strong commitment to the success and well-being of all scholars.
• An understanding of the role systemic racism has played in education and a commitment to an anti-racist approach in all work functions.
• A valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet PCYC’s driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
