Job Summary

  • The Registered Nurse - Surgery (RN-Surgery) provides direct and comprehensive nursing care to surgical patients within an acute care hospital setting
  • Utilizing the nursing process, the RN-Surgery assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to achieve optimal outcomes
  • This role supports surgical interventions across all age groups and ensures patient safety, comfort, and education throughout the perioperative process

Essential Functions

  • Delivers patient-centered nursing care based on established standards of care and the nursing process
  • Administers medications and treatments as prescribed and in accordance with policy
  • Documents all aspects of patient care clearly and accurately
  • Monitors, evaluates, and communicates patient condition to healthcare team, patient, and family
  • Coordinates and collaborates with surgical and interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient care
  • Participates in patient transfer, discharge, and referrals as needed
  • Educates patients and families on surgical procedures, recovery expectations, and post-operative care
  • Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of patients throughout the surgical experience

  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA guidelines
  • Physical ability to perform required duties, including lifting, bending, standing, and walking for extended periods
  • Willingness to comply with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures
  • Attends required staff meetings and maintains required certifications and competencies


Education

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required within time frame specified in facility policy)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (required within time frame specified in facility policy)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (required within timeframe specified in facility policy)

Experience

  • Minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience preferred
  • Previous perioperative or surgical services experience strongly preferred
