Job Description

Archbishop Spalding High School in Severn, Maryland is currently accepting applicants for a full-time English Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. The High School ELA teacher exhibits a passion for working with students. The successful applicant should demonstrate knowledge and communication of subject matter competency to high school aged students. The teacher is responsible for creating a system of positive discipline and classroom order where all students can learn with success. This is a full-time, benefit eligible, 10-month teaching position.  

Essential Functions

  • Follows AOB curriculum and best practices in development of daily instructional plan.
  • Use varied assessment tools to perform both formative and summative assessments by demonstrating a willingness to respond to individual learning needs.
  • Collaborates with grade level teachers to enhance and support instructional planning as well as collaborating with content area teachers or cross-curricular assignments.
  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, and administration in all matters related school.
  • Practice positive, consistent discipline in the management of the classroom.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education or English
  • Qualifications required for MSDE secondary certification
  • In-depth knowledge of literature and writing instruction
  • Pedagogical knowledge that encourages critical thinking
  • An appreciation for and willingness to collaborate with teams
  • Strong proficiency in utilizing digital and online platforms, specifically Google Suite and Canvas
  • Enthusiasm for working with adolescents
  • A deep understanding of adolescent pedagogy and development
  • A desire to grow through reflective professional practice
  • A commitment to building a community of connection and belonging

Pay Range:  $42,000 - $85,000, Annualized
