Organization Overview

The Bargmann laboratory studies genes and neural pathways that allow animals to generate flexible behaviors. We use the simple nervous system of nematodes to examine circuits, neuromodulatory systems, and cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie innate behaviors.
Overview

We are seeking a Research Assistant with an interest in molecular neuroscience to join our lab and assist with experiments in several species of nematodes.


Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing RNA Fluorescence in situ Hybridization to analyze gene expression in nematodes

  • Performing C. elegans injections, genetics, and PCR to generate and validate CRISPR strains

  • Quantitative microscopy and image analysis

  • Maintenance of nematode strains

  • Participation in weekly laboratory meetings and planning sessions


Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, neuroscience, or closely related field
  • Familiarity with animal behavior and molecular neurobiology
  • Laboratory experience in experimental biology and data interpretation
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, communication, and time management

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in molecular biology techniques such as in situ staining, DNA extraction, PCR, DNA cloning or CRISPR

  • A foundation in genetics in C. elegans, Drosophila, or yeast

  • Familiarity with microscopy and image analysis

  • Training for specific techniques required for the role will be provided by the lab
