Job Description

Overview

New Nurse Residency program for new graduate nurses or Nurses with less than a year of actual experience.  The residency starts on July 20, 2026.

The Nurse Resident (NR) has graduated from an accredited nursing program, passed the NCLEX and has provided

evidence of licensure to practice in the support of the transition from academic preparation to clinical practice. Under the

direct supervision and guidance of a registered nurse preceptor, the NR provides safe, evidence-based patient care while

progressively building clinical competence and confidence. Responsibilities may be tailored to meet the educational needs

of the residents as well as the requirements of the clinical specialty area.


Responsibilities

Provides nursing care in accordance with the American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards, hospital policies

and procedures, and the Florida Nurse Practice Act. Meets the needs of patients on assigned unit by carrying out and

documenting per policy:

a. Performs and/or assists with all aspects of a.m. and p.m. care including bed baths and mouth care, waive testing,

dressing changes, vital signs, urine and stool testing, blood draws, intravenous insertions, and intake & output, etc.

b. Provides assistance to patients requiring help with feeding and/or feed set-up, bedpan/urinal or other devices, and

provides ice and water to patients.

c. Assists patients with ambulation per orders including to the bathroom, bedside commode, bedside chair, and/or

room/hallway ambulation

d. Assumes clerical duties such as answering phones, entering orders, answering and responding to calls, visitor entry

requests on locked units, etc.

Documents age-appropriate care and patient/family education based on patient assessment and in accordance with

hospital policies and procedures.

Provides patient-centered care and demonstrates BEST "must have" behaviors to achieve a high level of patient/family

satisfaction such as: AIDET, communication boards, Key Words at Key Times, hourly rounding, managing up, no pass

zone, discharge phone calls, etc.

The NR performs specific patient care tasks and procedures under the direction of the physician, nurse, or health care

provider under the guidelines of the hospital.

The NR is expected to actively engage in 100% of all learning activities intended for the nurse residency program.

Complies with patient safety goals and programs as defined in hospital policies and procedures such as medication

administration, safe use of restraints, use of I.V. infusion pumps, use of clinical alarm systems, communications among

caregivers, falls and pressure ulcer prevention protocols, accurate identification of patients, infection control, etc.

Serves as a patient advocate by providing compassionate nursing care that is individualized to meet the special needs of

each patient. Consults Ethics Committee and/or uses chain-of-command, as appropriate.


Qualifications

Required Education Associate's degree.

Specific course work: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Preferred Education BSN

Required Licensure/Certifications

•Licensed to practice nursing in the state of Florida

•BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required for all areas.
