THE ROLE: Solar Field Helper
Spruce Power is a leading owner and operator of distributed solar energy assets across the United States. By offering subscription-based services to over 75,000 customers, Spruce can make renewable energy more accessible to everyone.
Spruce is headquartered in Houston, TX, with presence in California and New Jersey.  This role is envisioned to be in Houston, TX.
Purpose of the Role:
This entry-level role introduces individuals to solar maintenance operations while providing critical field and warehouse support. The position emphasizes safety, reliability, organization, and basic technical exposure — without independent electrical or diagnostic work. It prepares candidates for promotion to Apprentice Solar Maintenance Technician.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Accompany technicians to job sites and assist with site setup and breakdown.
  • Stage ladders, cones, tarps, and safety equipment.
  • Carry tools, equipment, and replacement parts.
  • Load and unload vehicles and secure materials properly. Drive material from warehouse to job or job to job.
  • Take site photos as directed and maintain safe distances from energized equipment.
  • Follow all safety protocols and roof-access rules.
  • Receive, log, and organize incoming equipment and parts in the warehouse.
  • Pick and stage materials for daily jobs; assist with inventory counts.
  • Label and store components properly; maintain clean workspaces.
  • Prepare return shipments (RMAs) under direction.
  • Assist with loading vehicles and report any equipment or vehicle issues.
  • Complete company safety onboarding and basic solar awareness training.
  • Observe troubleshooting in the field without participating.
WHAT THIS ROLE CANNOT DO:
  • Perform independent field or electrical work.
  • Conduct diagnostics or make technical decisions.
  • Work on roofs without direct technician supervision.
  • Provide technical customer support.
  • Sign off on completed jobs or documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work outdoors and at heights.
  • Ability to lift and carry tools and materials safely.
  • Strong reliability, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
TYPICAL EXPERIENCE BAND
  • 0–1 year (entry-level)
PROMOTION TO APPRENTICE (LEVEL 1)
Advancement requires consistent safety habits, reliability, professional conduct, proper tool handling, organized warehouse practices, and successful completion of an L0 → L1 competency test covering basic safety, ladder skills, tool identification, solar component awareness, and teamwork evaluation.
