Position Summary: 

The Buying Intern is a non-exempt, part-time role that supports the buying team through observation, learning, and hands-on participation in day-to-day buying operations. Working directly alongside the Buyer and Assistant Buyer, the intern gains foundational exposure to retail buying, financial and assortment planning, vendor relationships, and cross-functional collaboration within a nonprofit retail environment. This role owns accuracy and timeliness of purchase order and product set up and ensures timeliness PO execution to support product flow and launches. The Buying Intern maintains accurate product attributes, pricing and vendor information to ensure data completeness across systems and channels. In this role, the intern will complete a semester long buying project to develop a foundational understanding of the retail buying process.

Key Accountabilities & Achievements: 
  • Buyer and Assistant Buyer Support 
    • Support and shadow the Buyer and Assistant Buyer in daily tasks and overarching category objectives 
  • Purchase Order and Set Up Accuracy 
    • Own accuracy and timeliness of purchase orders and product set up 
  • Product and Vendor Data Integrity 
    • Own integrity and reliability of product and vendor data 
  • Internship Learning Goal Achievement 
    • Complete a semester long buying project and report progress to the Buyer on a regular basis 
Knowledge, Abilities & Experience for Success: 
  • Student at the University of Texas at Austin required 
  • Major or minor in the Textiles and Apparel school preferred 
  • MS Suite; basic excel skills preferred  
  • Ability to work flexible hours with variable schedules from week-to-week that may include early mornings, days, nights, weekends, and holidays. 
Physical Demands:  
  • Substantial movements (motion) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers in a repetitive manner.   
  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).    
  • Continuous sitting, standing, walking, using stairs, hearing, talking, bending, crouching, and working closely with others.  
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds (up to 100 pounds via dolly) of force occasionally to lift, carry, pull, or otherwise move objects. 
Work Environment: 
  • Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.   
  • Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).   
  • Indoor and outdoor work environment with occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and outside weather.   
  • Hours of work are Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends during busy times.
