VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

JOB TITLE: Medical Assistant Bilingual Portuguese speaking

LOCATION: Plymouth

HOURS: Fulltime, some evenings

SALARY: $29.10

BENEFITS: Medical, dental, holiday, paid earned leave, 403b, etc.

DUTIES: The Medical Assistant will work within a sexual and reproductive health services team to support the provision of clinical services by providing the following:

  • Provide clients with non-judgmental and accurate information regarding reproductive health issues, contraception, sexually transmitted infections, HIV, Hepatitis, pregnancy options, and pregnancy prevention.
  • Perform routine lab functions and testing including phlebotomy, urine pregnancy testing, HIV and Hepatitis testing and prepare specimens for transport
  • Assist in abortion procedures to provide clinician and/or patient support. taking vital signs, providing aftercare, and patient support and information
  • Assist with GYN procedures including LEEP, colposcopy, and ultrasound
  • Triage post procedure patient care
  • Room patients and obtain and record client’s personal medical history including gynecological, obstetrical and sexual history
  • Provide service navigation including linking patients to care and providing referrals and medical follow-up
  • Provide HIV PrEP/nPEP drug assistance and support, referrals for overdose education and Naloxone, medication assisted treatment, syringe services, mental health, primary care, housing, and other social services
  • Accurately enter data into electronic health record system
  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms and maintain laboratory controls
  • Other duties as assigned by the Site Manager.

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Portuguese speaker; high school diploma or equivalent; prior experience as medical or social service setting in busy office; computer literacy essential. Must demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills in English and be sensitive to the needs of a culturally diverse population; prior experience working with low income and vulnerable populations; demonstrated ability to communicate unbiased reproductive health knowledge to patients (adolescents and adults of all genders) in an effective and culturally competent, non-judgmental manner.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Medical Assistant Certificate, GYN medical assisting experience
