ICP Group is seeking to identify a Refurbishing Associate (Manufacturing Associate) to join our Lynchburg, VA plant. The Canister De-Gassing, Cleaning, and Painting Technician is responsible for refurbishing used cylinders by safely de-gassing, cleaning, and applying protective coatings. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to operate specialized equipment used in the preparation and coating of cylinders. The technician ensures that all refurbished cylinders meet quality and safety standards before they are returned to service.

This position will be working at our Lynchburg, VA Carroll manufacturing plant with a pay rate of $18.00/hour.

Responsibilities:
 
  • De-Gassing Cylinders:
    • Safely vent and de-gas cylinders following established safety procedures.
    • Ensure proper disposal of residual gases in accordance with environmental regulations.
    • Perform leak testing to ensure cylinders are completely de-pressurized.
  • Cylinder Cleaning:
    • Use industrial cleaning equipment (such as blast cabinets or cleaning tanks) to remove dirt, rust, and old paint from the cylinder surfaces.
    • Ensure cylinders are cleaned internally and externally, with special attention to valve areas and threads.
    • Inspect cylinders for damage or corrosion during the cleaning process, tagging any requiring further inspection.
  • Painting and Coating:
    • Apply paint or other protective coatings using spray or dip methods to protect cylinders from corrosion and wear.
    • Operate painting booths and curing ovens, ensuring even coverage and proper drying times.
    • Ensure the correct color-coding of cylinders according to industry standards.
  • Quality Control:
    • Conduct thorough inspections of cylinders post-cleaning and painting to ensure they meet company and regulatory standards.
    • Document any deviations from specifications and notify the appropriate personnel.
  • Maintenance & Equipment Handling:
    • Perform routine maintenance on cleaning and painting equipment.
    • Ensure the safe storage and handling of chemicals and gases.
    • Maintain clean and organized workspaces.
  • Safety Compliance:
    • Follow all OSHA safety guidelines related to handling pressurized gases, chemicals, and hazardous materials.
    • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirators, gloves, and protective clothing.
    • Participate in safety drills and maintain up-to-date safety certifications.

Experience needed:
 
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in industrial cleaning, painting, or a similar role in manufacturing preferred.
  • Knowledge of industrial painting techniques and equipment.
  • Familiarity with cylinder testing and refurbishment processes is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations for working with pressurized gas cylinders and chemicals.
  • Ability to operate industrial cleaning and painting equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a physically demanding environment.
Work Environment:
  • Full-time position based in an industrial setting.
  • May involve exposure to hazardous materials and the use of safety equipment.
  • Requires standing for extended periods and manual labor in various environmental conditions.
