Job Title: Family Violence Advocate Department: Health and Wellbeing Schedule: 40-hour work week, Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Occasional early mornings, nights, and weekends as required
Supervisor: Health and Wellbeing Senior Manager, Domestic Violence Program Coordinator Exemption Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt   GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Family Violence Advocate provides information, education, and advocacy services to refugee and immigrant survivors of violence on topics related to dating and family violence prevention, court and legal protections, resources and support services, financial literacy and self-sufficiency, and U.S. legal rights and responsibilities. The Advocate conducts outreach to inform community members of services available to victims of violence and to educate mainstream service providers on serving immigrant communities.  The Advocate supports the fiscal and programmatic reporting requirements to remain in good standing with the Family Violence Prevention and Advocacy Program’s stakeholders.   KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  60% of the advocate’s time and effort will be dedicated to victim advocacy services:
  • Complete intakes assessing the safety, stability, and services required for effective victim advocacy in consultation with the Family Violence Prevention program team/coordinator
     
  • Provide support, information, referrals, and advocacy to survivors involved in criminal or civil court proceedings, safe housing and relocation, and/or issues related to citizenship
     
  • Provide support, information, referrals, and advocacy related to public benefits, employment, and financial literacy, such as renewals, credit-building programs, etc.
     
  • Complete referrals to external service providers to support survivors’ transition to self-sufficiency (i.e., furniture banks, counseling centers, daycares, medical facilities, ESL classes, employment services, education, and/or career development programs, etc.)
30% of the advocate’s time and effort will be dedicated to administrative requirements:
  • Complete quarterly programmatic reports to maintain State and Federal compliance
     
  • Maintain compliant and updated client case files, documentation, and case notes
10% of the advocate’s time and effort will be dedicated to community outreach:
  • Organize community education: speak at meetings, facilitate workshops, and distribute written materials. Topics include, but are not limited to, building positive relationships, violence prevention, U.S. and State law as it pertains to individual rights, etc.
     
  • Participate in various coalition activities; attend meetings and conferences as required
  Additional responsibilities include:
  • Supports other case management and capacity building activities in the Health & Wellbeing Department, including workshops, walk-in services, outreach events, and transportation
  • Provides language interpretation and translation across departments as needed
  • Collaborate with colleagues and other partners for service provision
  • Works occasional evenings and weekends as required
  • Other duties as assigned
  SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES Required:
  • A personal passion to supporting refugee and immigrant survivors
  • Must be responsible and punctual
  • Maintain a valid Driver’s license and insured vehicle
  • Sensitivity to all cultural backgrounds, religions, and nationalities
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment on a team and independently
  • Must speak one or more of the following languages:
    Dari, Farsi, Swahili, Arabic, Burmese, Chin, Spanish, Pashto, Nepali, French, Kinyarwanda, Rohingya, Haitian Creole, Tigrinya, Amharic, Sango
  • Flexibility and ability to problem-solve
  • Good interpersonal and public speaking skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Submit to a criminal background check
  • Proficiency in effectively utilizing technology platforms, including Microsoft Office, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Salesforce
Preferred:
  • Experience working with issues requiring high confidentiality
  • Familiarity with legal, housing, or employment resources
  COMPENSATION This is a full-time position with a range of $18.50- $21.40 per hour ($38,500-$44,500 annually) Employer contributes to medical, dental and vision insurance. Employer pays life and disability insurance. Fifteen (15) paid holidays and a generous paid time off policy.
