The ideal candidate will be at least a sophomore at an accredited 4-year university pursuing a degree in Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or related fields. Strong math, communication, and organizational skills are desired, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and CAD Software.

Job Description

Position: Product Development Engineer Intern 
Description:  
Hog Slat Inc., the world’s largest provider of equipment and turnkey facilities to the swine industry, is seeking qualified candidates to join our Engineering team for the summer of 2026. Interns will spend 12 weeks working with members of our product development division learning day-to-day operations and cultivating professional and personal growth through one-on-one mentoring sessions.

Hours: 40 hours/week with some additional travel time probable.

Locations: Newton Grove, NC and Clinton, NC

Responsibilities:
  • Use statistical methods and mathematical calculations to determine optimum manufacturing processes, staffing and production standards.
  • Participate in Quality Control objectives and production problem resolution to maximize production efficiency.
  • Assist in the Design layout of equipment, materials and workspace to obtain maximum efficiency.
  • Review production schedules, engineering specifications, orders and other related information to obtain knowledge of manufacturing methods, procedures and activities.
  • Assist in the estimation of production costs and effect improvements for management review, action and control.
  • Monitor production costs (both labor and materials) to insure effective labor utilization and schedule attainment.
  • Participate in operator training and quality activities as related to assembly.
  • Assist with Continuous Improvement (methods improvement) activities

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess the following experience/educational characteristics:
  • At least a sophomore standing at an accredited 4-year university
  • Pursuing degree(s) in Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related fields
  • Agricultural background desired, but not necessary
  • Must have a thorough understanding assembly equipment, ergonomics, methods and procedures
  • Sufficient organizational skills to prioritize, schedule, plan, coordinate, implement and follow-up assigned projects
  • Excellent math skills; especially in the statistical analysis of data, charting and graphing
  • Demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrate negotiation and problem solving skills
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Applications and CAD Software strongly preferred
