Facilities Planning, Construction and Management, Office of Sustainability and Energy Conservation, is responsible for ensuring that all 19 campuses in the CUNY system operate in a sustainable manner with regard to energy, water use and waste. The intern will support the Sustainability Council Chairs’ Waste and Electric Vehicle (EV) Working Groups in moving campus sustainability efforts forward. This hands-on role is a great opportunity for students interested in climate action, infrastructure planning, and campus sustainability.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position will support Waste-Procurement Campus Working Group by assisting in researching products and alternatives for CUNY green procurement initiatives; analysis of costs and paybacks; setting up meetings with vendors; researching opportunities and helping develop clear, actionable roadmaps and the associated communications/events and community outreach as needed, to improve waste practices across CUNY campuses, including waste reduction, recycling, and composting initiatives. The role will also support the campus EV Working Group by assisting with planning and research around campus fleet transitions; helping to identify infrastructure needs for electric vehicles; supporting compliance with New York State and New York City sustainability and electrification mandates; tracking policies, mandates, and progress; and supporting working group meetings, materials, and coordination.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a CUNY student

  • Enrolled in a CUNY college with at least 60 credits towards a Bachelor’s degree

  • Background/Coursework in sustainability and/or communications

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel

  • Some graphic design capacity

  • Strong communication skills

  • Experience with data and data analysis

  • Commitment to principles of sustainability and energy conservation

Pay Range:

Minimum - Maximum: $17.50/hour
