We're seeking a Special Education Teacher to create engaging lesson plans for students with diverse abilities. A Bachelor's degree in Education, a current Tennessee Teaching License, and classroom management skills are essential. Experience in Special Education and SPED certification are preferred.

Norris Academy is a residential treatment facility located in Andersonville, TN approximately 30 minutes north of Knoxville.

We serve youth ages 6 to 17 who are diagnosed with mental health and/or Autism Spectrum/neuro-developmental disorders. Our 63-bed facility serves youth from Tennessee as well as several other states. Our team is fully committed to offering a broad spectrum of services and options that care for our patients and families alike.

The Job
 
The Special Education Teacher will create and implement effective and engaging lesson plans in the classroom to students with special needs on variety of ability levels. 


Snapshot of Daily Duties

  • Create and implement lesson plans.
  • Teach to a variety of students on different ability and grade levels.
  • Provide effective classroom management skills.
  • Attend educational meetings (IEP, Eligibility, professional development, teacher meeting, ect.).
  • Work in a collaborative environment with all staff at Norris Academy.
  • Represent the educational department in a professional manner.
  • Complete educational testing on students.
  • Evaluate students’ educational needs and plan curriculum accordingly.
  • Process a high volume of paperwork and reporting efficiently and effectively.

The Must Haves

  • Must have a current Tennessee Teaching License.
  • Priority consideration will be given to candidates with a SPED certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education.
  • Preferred experience working in Special Education.
  • Must be able to meet the unique educational needs of all students. 
  • Must have effective classroom management skills and demonstrate an enthusiasm and competence for working with special needs students.

Our inter-disciplinary team of adolescent clinical and independent licensed social workers, therapists, psychiatric nurses, Each child receives an individualized personal treatment plan specifically tailored for him/her.
