Position Summary:

The Rewind Operator provides directions to Coater Technicians on color changes and coating rolls in a manufacturing environment and works closely with the Utility Person to cut strip and safely remove coated coils from the rewind station.

The Rewind Operator communicates coating defects, rejects, and test samples to the Quality Control Technician and takes proactive, preventative measures to ensure all products meet company quality and specification standards.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Controls start-up, shutdown, and line speed of the coating line
  • Cuts coil samples for quality inspection
  • Sets and adjusts line tension by modifying pullouts and holdbacks
  • Operates the coil cart to remove coils from the recoiler
  • Monitors strip temperature at the rewind station
  • Accurately enters production data, including coated coil weights, scrap, footage, and downtime reasons, into the computer system
  • Operates tow motor (forklift) and overhead crane to remove coils from the arbor and assists with coil storage
  • Continuously monitors material in process for metal and paint defects and promptly communicates issues to the QC Technician, Coater Technician(s), Lead Person, and Supervisor
  • Complies with OSHA and company procedures for handling hazardous materials, including proper storage, cleaning, labeling, and recordkeeping
  • Assists with other areas of the line as needed, including strip cooling, paint changeovers, cleanup, and strip breaks
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Requirements:

  • Ability to successfully perform all essential job duties
  • Fluency in English, including the ability to read, write, and speak clearly
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret documents such as training manuals and work instructions
  • Ability to prepare routine reports and assist with or facilitate training sessions
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including division of units of measure, rates, ratios, percentages, and interpretation of graphs
  • High School Diploma or GED

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Work is performed in a manufacturing plant environment with moving machinery and elevated noise levels
  • Required to always wear company-issued Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as designated for the work area
  • Exposure to varying temperatures, including extreme cold and extreme heat
  • Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, climbing, pushing and pulling
  • Requires regular bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, squatting, crawling, and postural balancing
  • Involves manipulating materials, trunk rotation, handling, gripping, and effective verbal communication and hearing
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance and 80-100 pounds with assistance
  • Frequent use of company communication devices, including computers, phones, and other office or production electronics
