N.I.C.E. Summer Camp Intern
Internship Description/Learning Objectives:
Interns will support immigrant and refugee youth participants (aged 5-10, or 11-14) in developing literacy and social-emotional skills and deepening their sense of community.
Interns will:
learn strategies to build and sustain high-quality youth programming.
- build their skillsets in leadership, communication, team building, conflict management.
- learn to recognize and respond to behavior patterns that result from difficult personal circumstances.
- develop competency working in diverse
backgrounds to overcome multigenerational trauma.
Job Duties:
- Create a welcoming, positive, and safe environment for each student
- Help maintain safety of students at all times at the summer camp site and during field trips
- Maintain safety and cleanliness of summer camp facility
- Teach new lessons each week to a group of
students (aged 5-10, and 11-14), from a curriculum centered around five primary core competencies of social-emotional learning (SEL)
- Supervise a group of students through various
activities and stations
- Lead stations-based activities including reading, writing, and STEAM
- Observe behavior management best practices

Work Schedule Days and Hours:
Monday-Thursday 8:30am-3:00 pm

Travel Required:
No anticipated travel outside of Nashville. Interns will attend in-person on site, 4 days per week. Transportation will be provided for additional sites, such as field trip locations, that are not the main site or the office.
Physical Requirements:
The role includes interactive play such as dance or outdoor sports.
Accommodation will be made for applicants experiencing physical disabilities. All site locations are ADA compliant.
Working Conditions: (example: Office Warehouse, Outdoors, with Children or Animals, etc.)
Community room settings, outdoor settings, and office settings; working with children and alongside NICE staff members.
The full program is June 1st – July 17th
June 1st – June 3rd: Interns attend work readiness skills training from 8am – 12pm.
June 4th: Attend employer orientation meeting.
June 5th: POWER Youth Summit at Sheraton Music City Nashville Airport
June 8th – July 17th: Youth will report to their employer worksite location on Monday –
Thursday or special schedule workday at the time
scheduled by employer. You will be scheduled to work 6.5 hours daily
which equals 24 hours per week.
Friday Cohorts: Youth report to cohort sessions at assigned locations at 8:00am to
12:00noon on Fridays.
July 17th: POWER Youth Summer Employment Program.
If you are selected as a High School Intern, you will make $15.00 an hour and receive pre-program training and coaching to ensure you have the skills you need on the job. Interns are responsible for providing their own transportation to all orientation, training, worksite, and cohort times. Please consider your transportation needs prior to applying for the High School Internship program. There are opportunities to intern in many areas of Nashville, so please select the opportunity based on your access to transportation.
