About the Unit:

  • 4 North Pavilion Progressive Care Unit consists of 30 private beds, all of which have in-room cardiac monitoring capabilities.
  • Our nurses skillfully provide care to a varied patient population that requires a higher level of care than what is able to be provided on the general medicine units, but who are of a lesser acuity than what would be required for admission into the intensive care areas.
  • Our population of patients have diagnoses which consist of both cardiac and more complex patient care needs.  Our patients often undergo procedures such as cardiac catheterization with and without stent placement, pacemaker and defibrillator insertions, A-Fib and other ablations, as well as patients admitted for the Watchman procedure.  We treat patients with cardiac arrhythmias, either by cardiac drips such as Cardizem or Amiodarone, or orally with Tikosyn or Sotalol therapy. Our CHF patients may require IV or oral Lasix therapy or treatment with other medications such as a Milrinone drip.
  • Patients with higher medical needs may require oxygen via heated High-Flow, EEG monitoring, IV insulin infusions, or simply more frequent monitoring for a variety of medically indicated conditions.
  • Our new nurses receive enhanced, self-paced computer based modules and interactive educational opportunities via the AACN’s ECCO program (Essentials of Critical Care Orientation) which we have adapted to the Progressive Care patient population to provide you with increased knowledge about the patients you will care for on our unit, as well as helping you to transition your role from nursing student to a fully-functioning Registered Nurse!
