Nestle Purina is seeking a Statistician for a 12-week summer contract. You should have proficiency in R and/or Python, a solid understanding of applied statistical methods, and strong communication skills. Ideal candidates are currently enrolled in a PhD program or in their final year of a graduate program in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field, but Master's candidates will also be considered.
Job Description
Preference will be given to candidates local to STL. However, the manager is open to remote candidates.
Local candidates will be required to work onsite M-Th; remote on Fridays

About the Role
Join the Nestle Purina R&D Statistics team for a 12-week summer internship where you’ll work alongside senior statisticians on high impact analytical and methodological projects supporting pet care research.
What You’ll Work On
• Collaborate with senior members of the Statistics team on research and application of general linear models using pet data.
• Develop and deploy analytics automation to support Round Robin design workflows in a production environment, improving efficiency and reproducibility.
• Present your project outcomes to the Applied Nutrition / behavior team at the end of the internship.
Required Skills
• Strong proficiency in R and/or Python; SQL experience is a plus.
• Solid foundation in applied statistical methods, including but not limited to:
• Linear and nonlinear mixed effects models
• Experimental design
• Power and sample size determination
• Demonstrated ability to independently solve complex analytical and methodological problems.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Desired Skills
• Deeper expertise in statistical methodologies such as design of experiments, mixed effects models, Bayesian statistics, power/sample size calculations.
• Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (Azure and/or AWS).
• Exposure to AI/ML tools in an applied analytics or research context.
Qualifications & Eligibility
• Currently enrolled in PhD program or in final year of graduate program in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field (preferred). Master's candidates will also be considered.
• Must be currently enrolled at an accredited U.S. college/university and enrolled for the fall term with an expected graduation date between December 2026 and May 2027.
• Must be able to commit to 12 full-time, consecutive weeks during the summer of 2026.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States for the duration of the contract
Engagement Details
• Contract Type: Short term contractor
• Duration: 12 weeks (Summer 2026)
• Schedule: Full time (40 hours/week) - $20 an hour
• Location: St. Louis, MO (onsite preferred; limited remote consideration for strong candidates)
