Assistant Teacher, Special Education (2026 - 2027 School Year)   Job Title: Assistant Teacher, Special Education Location: Onsite – Boston Position Type: Full Time, 10-month position   Summary of position: The Baker Center for Children and Families (also known as Judge Baker Children's Center), promotes the best possible mental health of children and families through the integration of research, intervention, training, and policy.   The Manville School, a highly successful and reputable educational program, is seeking a Special Education Assistant Teacher.  The Assistant Teacher provides academic and behavioral support to students while carrying out curriculum instruction within the classroom under the supervision of the special education teacher.  The Assistant Teacher supports implementation of lessons and carries out curriculum instruction, tailored to meet students’ specific learning needs/behavioral profiles.  The Assistant Teacher actively participates in academic instruction and classroom management, while learning and applying effective evidence-based behavior management techniques.  This position is considered to be a training position with direct supervision from educational supervisor and classroom teacher.   What’s in it for me?

Essential duties:
  • Plans and implements individualized and small group lessons in specific curriculum areas (1-2 content areas) under the supervision of the special education teacher in the classroom.
  • In conjunction with the classroom team (lead teacher and behavior support personnel), develop and implement classroom behavior management plan appropriate to the age and social/emotional levels of students.
  • Actively participates in the daily operation of the classroom, including academic instruction and classroom management.
  • Learns and employs effective behavior management techniques that are consistent with the school-wide model and structure.
  • Fosters positive self-esteem and social growth of students through appropriate curriculum and behavioral structure.
  • Writes Quarterly Progress Reports based on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students.
Qualifications Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field is required.
Experience:
  • Experience working with children/students with special needs, preferably in a classroom setting.
Training:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suites.
  • First Aid/CPR and Physical Restraint trainings is required or ability to participate in annual training at beginning of employment and annually or as needed throughout tenure.
