BASIC PURPOSE:
The Operations Intern will support warehouse operations leadership in driving safe, accurately, and efficient product flow within the facility. This role provides hands-on exposure to distribution center operations including shipping, receiving, inventory control, productivity monitoring, and workforce coordination. The intern will assist with operational reporting, process improvement initiatives, and day-to-day execution support while developing an understanding of frontline leadership responsibilities in a fast-paced food distribution environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist operations leadership in monitoring daily warehouse activities including order selection productivity, replenishment activity, and shipping readiness.

• Support analysis of operational performance metrics such as productivity rates, mis-picks, shortages, and inventory variances to help identify improvement opportunities.

• Participate in cycle count activities and inventory accuracy initiatives to ensure product is properly located and available for shipping.

• Assist with coordination of inbound receiving processes including staging preparation, dock readiness, and product flow tracking.

• Support preparation of operational documentation including shift reports, safety observations, inventory adjustment support, and workflow tracking tools.

• Observe and support associate training and engagement initiatives focused on safety, preferred work methods, and operational standards.

• Assist in identifying potential safety risks within warehouse operations and help communicate observations to operations leadership.

• Collaborate cross-functionally with inventory control, purchasing, and warehouse teams to understand causes of shortages, overages, or damages.

• Support special projects related to cost control, process improvement, space utilization, or operational efficiency.

• Participate in operational meetings, learning sessions, and end-of-program presentation preparation to demonstrate business impact contributions.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: 
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Business, Industrial Engineering, or related field.

• Strong interest in distribution center operations and frontline leadership.

• Ability to analyze basic operational data and communicate observations effectively.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar tools.

• Ability to work in a warehouse environment including standing, walking, and occasional lifting.

PREFFERED SKILLS: 
• Exposure to warehouse, manufacturing, logistics, or retail operations environments.

• Experience working in team-based or fast-paced environments.

• Strong problem solving, organization, and communication skills.

• Interest in leadership development and operational process improvement.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Minimal travel may be required based on project assignments.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

•    Must have regular, reliable method of transportation to commute to US Foods’ location.

Compensation depends on relevant experience and/or education, specific skills, function, geographic location, and other factors as applicable by law. The expected base rate for this role is between $29.00 and $30.00 hr.
