REPORTS TO: Operations Manager

MISSION:

The Receiving Specialist ensures that all inbound shipments are accurately, efficiently, and safely received into inventory without error or damage. This role is essential to achieving Talbert Building Supply's (TBS) required level of service.

Requirements

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures that all materials are received physically and handled with care to prevent damage to the product. All materials must be counted and inspected for accuracy before signing any paperwork from the vendor or a Bill of Lading (BOL). All materials must be received following a valid Purchase Order (PO) issued by TBS. If there are discrepancies with or damage to the product, then it should be documented on both the PO and the BOL prior to signing for it. All materials should immediately be tagged with the appropriate paperwork and stored according to company guidelines. Upon completion of these tasks, the Receiver will mark the products received in BisTrack (TBS operating system) according to company guidelines. Failure to perform any of these tasks will impact any potential bonus. 
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization for the Roxboro Distribution Warehouse and general yard cleanliness when stock is put away. This means all stock and special order items are tagged and in their correct place. Stock should always be flat stacked, stored properly, and rotated to sell the oldest items first. Overstock should be put away in a timely manner once received.
  • Trash should be swept up, and trash cans should be emptied. 
  • Cull items should be taken out of stock quickly and placed in the auction pile. 
  • No materials should ever be left exposed to the weather if they could be damaged under these conditions.  
  • Inventory discrepancies and shortages should be reported to the Operations Manager immediately. 
  • Assists coworkers and customers by helping them locate and load orders for pick up or delivery, checking in returns, checking loads for accuracy when leaving the yard, and answering general questions.
  • Customers must have a pick ticket before they are loaded or a credit note before they are unloaded.
  • The customer should sign waivers if the load presents a risk in any way. 
  • Communicates via phone and radio with management, sales staff, yard staff, drivers, and customers as required to ensure accurate and timely processing of all operations. This person will also notify all appropriate team members when back orders, delays, damaged products, shipping errors, or picking errors occur to ensure the proper reorders and handling takes place to maintain customer satisfaction.
  • Adheres to all general and safety guidelines and reports any issues to management immediately.
  • Reports any equipment failures and maintenance needs to your supervisor. 
  • Maintain a positive relationship with all coworkers, customers, vendors, and delivery personnel.
  • Maintain a professional dress code with a Talbert logo on the shirt.
  • Completes special projects at the direction of your supervisor and all other duties as otherwise assigned. 

ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES:

  • Possess good interpersonal skills to work with team members and yet be able to work independently.
  • Ability and desire to learn internal company systems, software, and product knowledge (both stock & special order)
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures and take instruction and correction in a positive manner.
  • Demonstrate a strong product knowledge of materials in the building supply industry. 
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License issued by the state of residence.
  • Must be certified to drive a forklift. 
  • Must be able to lift to 100 pounds regularly and work in all types of weather conditions.
