Job Description

The MBL Ecosystems Center seeks a college graduate to join our ocean biogeochemistry group as a Research Assistant I (RA I) or Research Assistant II (RA II), depending on experience. The Research Assistant will participate in studies of deep-ocean particle flux as part of the Oceanic Flux Program time-series team. In addition, the RA will contribute to other research projects focused on particle cycling in the ocean, pollution, sedimentology, and related topics.


Specific duties include assisting with general laboratory operations, sample processing, and chemical analyses of marine particulates. The RA will also assist with data analysis, dissemination of results, outreach activities, and may participate in oceanographic research cruises off Bermuda.

The start date of this position is expected to be early June 2026, but to be discussed with the candidate. Per MBL policy, all non-exempt new employees are subject to a probationary period.

Qualifications:
This position requires a B.A. or B.S. in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Ecology, or related field. The ideal candidate will have interest and aptitude in organic and inorganic chemistry. Previous field experience in marine or environmental studies is a plus.

Physical Requirements:
Occasional lifting of heavy objects (<30 lbs).
