What You Will Do

In the Java/C++ Software Engineering role, you will design, develop, and test Java OR C++ code in a Linux, Agile, DevOps environment. We are at the forefront of aerospace and defense technology. Our Satellite Ground Systems Teams play a pivotal role in ensuring communication, surveillance, and defense capabilities through cutting-edge satellite systems. Due to the security clearance requirement, this is an onsite position in any of the following locations for summer 2027:

  • State College, PA
  • Dulles, VA
  • Aurora, CO
  • Richardson, TX

The Java/C++ Software Engineer will design, develop, and maintain advanced software applications for our Satellite Ground Systems. This role involves close collaboration with systems engineers, hardware designers, and other software engineers to deliver reliable and high-performance software solutions. Other responsibilities to anticipate may include:

  • Design, implement, and test Java-based or C++ based applications and software components for satellite ground systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define software requirements and specifications.
  • Work with previously written code and make modifications as necessary.
  • Ensure software performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Participate in software design reviews, code reviews, and system integration activities.
  • Contribute to the completion of program and project milestones under the specific guidance of their immediate supervisor.
  • Follow established Software processes and procedures, development, documentation and maintenance/management of operations concepts, requirements (system, element, segment level), external and internal interfaces, and other software engineering work products/artifacts.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in Java/C++ and satellite technology to drive innovation.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) , such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship session.
  • Must have a minimum of 30 hours of credit by the start of the internship session. 
  • Experience in object-oriented software design and development using a high order language such as Java in a Linux environment along with unit testing tools (e.g., JUnit).
  • Experience in scripting languages.
  • Experience may be obtained through on‑the‑job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience with Ansible, Jenkins, containers, and the Spring Framework
  • Security+ certification
  • Experience using the Atlassian tool suite
  • Experience with satellite communication systems and protocols is highly preferred
  • Familiarity with secure coding practices, especially in a defense or aerospace setting

The salary range for this role is 42,000 USD - 88,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
