Internship Title: 

Near Peer/Enrichment Camp Assistant

Internship Description/Learning Objectives:

Near Peers will report to the Enrichment Camp Director to help children build friendships, learn history/heritage, explore new interests, and have fun on field trips. In addition to program activities, Near Peers will have opportunities for:

  • Leading team meetings with Enrichment Director and camp volunteers
  • Planning and communication skills
  • Facilitating enrichment activities in arts, theater, writing, dance, and architecture.

Job Duties:

  • Plan and lead enrichment activities Guide and coach Enrichment Campers in enrichment activities 
  • Supervise campers on Enrichment field trips 
  • Lead meaningfully in conflict resolution 
  • Maintain documentation of program measurements including attendance, participation, and camp outcomes. 
  • Collaborate with the Enrichment Camp Director to prepare written lesson plans 
  • Work with Enrichment Camp Director and Enrichment Campers to plan and execute Summer Showcase. 

Preferred Competencies:

Candidates need to possess good communication skills; have general knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; and the ability to collaborate with others. A background in education or previous work with elementary-aged students are preferred but not required.

The full program is June 1st – July 17th   

June 1st – June 3rd:   Interns attend work readiness skills training from 8am – 12pm.

June 4th:                      Attend employer orientation meeting.

June 5th:                      POWER Youth Summit at Sheraton Music City Nashville Airport

June 8th – July 17th:   Youth will report to their employer worksite location on Monday – 

                                       Thursday or special schedule workday at the time 

                                        scheduled by employer.  You will be scheduled to work 6.5 hours daily

                                      which equals 24 hours per week.

Friday Cohorts:              Youth report to cohort sessions at assigned locations at 8:00am to 12:00noon on Fridays.

July 17th:                     POWER Youth Summer Employment Program.             

If you are selected as a High School Intern, you will make $15.00 an hour and receive pre-program training and coaching to ensure you have the skills you need on the job. Interns are responsible for providing their own transportation to all orientation, training, worksite, and cohort times. Please consider your transportation needs prior to applying for the High School Internship program.
