This posting is for an Engineering Technician I position within the Division 9 Salisbury Resident Engineer’s Office in Rowan County. The Salisbury Resident Engineer’s Office is looking for a highly motivated individual who is seeking the potential of career advancement. This position performs technical duties supporting engineers and other professionals in areas such as construction inspection, surveying, materials testing, materials sampling, erosion control inspection, and construction traffic control audits on assigned projects. Work functions may include the following: inspection for compliance and/or code; collection and analysis of field data; testing of materials; review and interpret design plans; analysis of engineering related data and/or product data. Duties may also include construction layout, measuring, staking, marking, and clearing brush. This position will perform other related duties as required.

Additional Expectations:
The selected applicant will be required to have a close visual acuity to use testing instruments, read plan details, make accurate field measurements and inspect roadway and structure components. This position may be exposed to high traffic volumes, may work at heights over water or traffic, and may have to climb on the substructure and superstructure of bridges. The selected applicant must be able to safely perform manual tasks involving the bush axe and other tools on steep and rough terrain. Will be expected to carry testing equipment over rough and steep terrain. Will be required to lift and carry at least 50 pounds. The successful applicant for this position is expected to safely work high above ground, be proficient in record keeping, and engineering testing equipment. A valid driver's license is preferred. This position may be required to work occasional nights and weekends and may be required to work snow/Ice events. Safety-toed shoes required.

Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade and Salary Range:  NC07 $37,377 - $65,408

Management prefers applicants with the following:

  • Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of computer equipment, iPad and software.
  • Experience maintaining standard daily records and reports.
  • Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
  • Knowledge of standards and specifications and plan reading experience

Minimum Education and Experience

Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
