Job Description

Summary

Do you have a desire to positively impact your community? Do you want an inside look at how local government works? Are you looking for a paid internship that will provide real-world professional experience?

During this 8 to 10-week paid internship program, students will gain meaningful work experience, obtain skills training, and attend programmed events throughout the summer focused on the value of careers in public service.

Pay Range: $9.00 - $13.50 (Depending on qualifications and experience)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

The purpose of this position is to provide an individual with exposure to operational, field, and administrative functions of the Parks & Recreation Department.

  • Will work in various divisions within the Parks and Recreation department.

  • Provide information to the public regarding recreation center activities; register participants for classes and activities.

  • Assist the public via phone or walk-up to give information regarding programs, schedules, and other related information.

  • Perform custodial and customer service to keep the Recreation Center clean, orderly, and properly set up for events and activities.

  • Assist in inventory control of equipment and supplies.

  • Supervise recreation activities and events. Enforce and maintain City and Department policies as needed, including interpreting and relating department rules and policies to customers.

  • Assist management with special work projects from conception through implementation.

  • Assist in the preparation of statistical analysis and report findings or research studies to the supervisor or department head.

  • Assist with the development of written and oral presentations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree plan in Parks & Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field of study.

  • Experience in content creation or social media

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the job's essential functions.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Publisher

  • Basic knowledge of a variety of recreation activities and the ability to communicate that knowledge into organized activities

  • Basic knowledge of First Aid and CPR procedures

  • Basic knowledge of supervision procedures for activities and events

  • Basic knowledge of recreational equipment and correct operation

  • Basic skills in operating office equipment and a personal computer

  • Basic skill in operating equipment and supplies for custodial or technical assignments

  • Ability to work independently of the supervisor

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Class C Texas driver's license

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

The incumbent works typically in both indoor and outdoor environments and may be subjected to extremes of heat and cold, rain, humidity, noise, etc.  Physical tasks include heavy lifting, bending, squatting, stooping, walking, and carrying supplies (up to 20 lbs).
