Location: Middletown, NY

Other potential locations available in Orange County, Dutchess County, Ulster County, Columbia County, Green County, Westchester County, and Rockland County.

Pay: Unpaid

Hours: Flexible within the following time frame, Monday – Friday 8am-6pm

Some programs offer more or less flexible hours; however, we do not offer opportunities on the weekends.

This position requires that applicants be enrolled in a degree program that will grant them credit hours for their internship. Applicants must be in a Human Services or related degree program.

Potential programs for an internship placement include Community Alternatives, REAL Changes, Preventive, REACH, Care Management, IDD Residential, MH Residential, Pre Voc, and Career Services.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Coach/teach/demonstrate new skills to clients.
  • Shadow and assist team.
  • Assist in writing case notes.
  • Support the individual to participate in meaningful activities.
  • Aid the individual in pursuing personal interests and aspirations.
  • Model appropriate boundaries and behaviors.
  • Observe and report on activity engagement trends.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONAL / ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT:

  • Participate in the discussion of clients’ individual valued outcomes, core competencies, and progress.
  • Assist with group facilitation.
  • Assist with client intakes.
  • Build on the individual's abilities and maximize their potential.
  • Additional assignments may be determined at a future date.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Ability to maintain healthy boundaries with clients.
  • Maintain an encouraging and accepting environment.
  • Strong organization skills with accurate attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Previous Human Services experience is a plus.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Undergraduate students in Human Services or related degree programs.
