Job Description:

This position is specifically for graduate students, specifically in a Masters program or Certificate program for School Counseling to work in a school site counseling program with training that will include individual student planning, responsive services, and systems support that aligns with the National Model. The intern will work as a team member with school staff, parents, and the community to create a caring, supportive climate in an atmosphere whereby students can achieve academic success. The intern will gain an understanding of unique and diverse challenges, both personally and developmentally that impact academic and social emotional achievement of students. The intern will develop and promote good community relations among various community and school clientele. The intern will work with a school(s) that have demonstrated essential understanding of comprehensive counseling programming that is aligned with the ASCA National Model in order to meet university standards.

Responsibilities:

Maintain community partnerships to support students and their families.

Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.

Customize counseling services to meet individual student and school needs.

Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Counsel individuals to help them understand and overcome personal, social or behavioral
problems affecting their education.

Align the counseling program to school goals (School Improvement Plan).

Deliver counseling services through classroom guidance lessons, small groups and
individual counseling.

Demonstrate age-appropriate counseling practices that meet academic and personal/social
needs.

Certifications:

Special Service Provider Intern Authorization - Colorado Department of Education

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (Required), Master's Degree: Counseling

Skills:

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to support positive outcomes, Effective verbal and written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions, Maintains a generally positive attitude, Observes all District policies and procedures, Strong organizational and time management skills
